What is a descriptive video?A descriptive video is exactly like any commercial video you would rent at the video store, except that narration has been added during quiet times of the movie to describe the visual elements of the film, including costume, scenery, facial expressions, etc. It fills in details of the movie that are otherwise only available to sighted viewers. How does description change the film I’m watching? The entire film remains intact because no description occurs over the dialogue. However, visual details are revealed during periods of no dialogue. The result is a more complete and satisfying movie experience. Do I need specialized equipment to play descriptive videos? No! Descriptive videos work on all standard VCR’s. The only difference is that the video itself contains the description. How do I become a member? The membership process is quick and easy. Simply fill out the membership application and mail along with one-time membership fee of $20 to Blue Rose Videos. As soon as your application is received, you will hear from us, letting you know that you can begin renting videos. Your first rental will be free! Do you accept credit cards? At the current time we accept only check or money order. Is there a shipping charge? That depends. If you are certified to receive Free Matter for the Blind or Handicapped, please indicate that on your application form. In that case there is no shipping charge. If you are not yet certified, but are interested in learning more about how to get certified, please go to the next question. If you are not eligible to receive Free Matter for the Blind or Handicapped, then shipping charges will apply to your rentals. How do I get certified to receive Free Matter for the Blind or Handicapped? People who are blind or who cannot use or read conventionally printed material due to a physical disability are qualified to receive Free Matter for the Blind or Handicapped. The individual must have a competent authority certify in writing that he or she is unable to read conventional reading material. A competent authority includes a licensed medical doctor, ophthalmologist, optometrist, registered nurse, or professional staff member of a hospital or other institution or agency. The statement is submitted to the post office where postage-free mailings will be made or received by the person. The person is then considered eligible to use the free mailing privilege. What am I entitled to with a membership? Your membership entitles you to participate in our rental program as long as you remain a member in good standing. In addition, you get 1 free movie with your membership. Can I buy tapes from you as well? At this time we do not sell videos. Can I request a film you do not have in stock? We are interested in hearing from you about the films you’d like to see. And we will try to maintain the most complete library of descriptive films available. Is there a limit to the number of tapes I can rent at one time? We ask you to limit your tapes to 1 at a time. As soon as your rental is returned you are eligible to rent another. That way we maintain a good inventory for all of our customers. Do you carry described children’s films? Absolutely. We have a great collection of children’s and family films.
